January 2020 Update

Well, what can I say? The reports were neglected!

As most of you know, I keep my Facebook Page far more updated, but I’m usually far better with keeping the website up to date. All I can say is….it’s been a busy year!

I took some time and put together some cool photos from the season on the lake and our fall river season. What was nice about a review of all those pictures is that I’m reminded of how incredible the fishing was this past year.

If you were able to find time on the water with me or have followed the Facebook Page then I’m sure you know how great the fishing was on Lake Ontario this past Spring and Summer on board the Hat Trick. Very seldom did we not target King Salmon and for good reason…they were hungry and there were good numbers of them. From Spring right through September King Salmon were on the menu.

This strong King fishing continued right through our evening fishing trips. As usual, we bounced around a lot trying to keep up with conditions. I didn’t get a ton of photos from those trips.

The Steelhead fishing was pretty enjoyable throughout the fall. It was fairly evident that the number of fish in the river is certainly not as high as the past few seasons, but the fact is we’ve been spoiled! It’s not the worst thing to work for your fish a bit.

As we stand now, the weather has remained pretty mild into our winter. We’ve seen quite a bit of rain and runoff which has resulted in some pretty harsh fluctuations in water flow. My hope is for February to have a bit more stable water conditions, this would be great for fishing.

This mild winter is great for the Lake though. As we’ve learned through the last decade, mild winters are far better for out forage fish populations.

Speaking of Lake Fishing! Now is the time to book your dates if you want to come fish with Gramps and I on board Hat Trick! The book is filling up and it’s sports show season, get in touch with me so we can get you out on the water. I expect the fishing will be awesome once again.

While we’re at it, here are remaining dates for Spring and Fall of 2020

February and March have plenty of room, just get in touch if you’d like to hit the river without the crowd.
